Case Study: Rebuilding Cares Home-Based Tuition and Handing Over the Keys
In July 2026 we handed the keys of a fully rebuilt careshomebasedtuition.com to its owners. Here is what we built, how we built it, and what "handover" actually means when we say it.
The client and the brief
Cares Home-Based Tuition is a Nairobi tutoring agency offering one-on-one home and online tutoring across international curricula (IGCSE, IB, Cambridge, A-Levels, SAT) and the Kenyan systems (KCSE, CBC). Their old website undersold them: it was slow, hard to update, and gave the team no visibility into who was enquiring or how visitors found them.
The brief was simple to say and demanding to do well: a fast, credible site that turns parents' visits into enquiries, and that the team can run entirely by themselves after we step away.
What we shipped
- A custom WordPress theme, built from scratch. No page builders, no bloated plugins for layout, hand-written templates and lean CSS, so pages stay light and fast on mobile data, which is how most Kenyan parents browse.
- An enquiry pipeline that can't lose a lead. The contact form saves every enquiry into the WordPress dashboard and emails the team. The host had server mail disabled, enquiries were being silently swallowed, so we rerouted all outgoing mail through authenticated SMTP on the domain's own mailbox. Every lead now lands twice.
- A real SEO foundation. Per-page titles and meta descriptions, Open Graph tags with a proper sharing image, structured data, an XML sitemap, and Google Search Console verified at the domain level via DNS. Google Analytics 4 runs site-wide, so the team can see where visitors come from and what they do.
- Content the team edits themselves. Homepage sections, success stories, testimonials and inner pages are all editable from the WordPress admin, plus a live Instagram feed that the owner connects with one click.
- A private staff portal. On its own subdomain, tutors file weekly student reports and administrators review and approve them, the operational side of a tutoring agency, not just the marketing side.
How we built it: tools and constraints
This project is a good picture of how Wallflower works day to day:
- AI-agent development. The theme, integrations and fixes were built with AI coding agents (we use Claude Code) supervised by us, the same process behind every site in our portfolio. The agent writes, tests and screenshots; we review, direct and sign off.
- Version control from day one. The whole theme lives in a Git repository, so every change to the live site is traceable and reversible.
- Automation within real-world constraints. The client's shared hosting has no SSH access, only cPanel. Rather than clicking through file managers, we wrote small Python tools that deploy theme files and manage DNS through cPanel's own APIs. Repeatable, scriptable deploys on a budget host.
- Screenshot-driven QA. Every visual change was verified with automated browser screenshots, desktop and mobile, before it shipped.
The handover
We think a website you can't run without your agency is a liability, so handover is a deliverable, not a goodbye. Cares received:
- An owner's guide written for non-developers: how to edit pages, post success stories, read analytics and manage enquiries.
- A credentials sheet covering every account the site depends on, hosting, domain, analytics, mailboxes, transferred securely to the owners.
- Working sessions with the team so the day-to-day tasks (updating content, reviewing tutor reports, answering enquiries) are theirs, not ours.
The team now updates the site, tracks its analytics and manages leads without us in the loop, and when they want new features, we pick up from a clean, documented codebase.
What this means for your business
If your website is slow, unloved, or held hostage by whoever built it, this is the fix: a lightweight rebuild, measurement wired in from the start, and a proper handover so the site is genuinely yours. That is the standard we hold every project to.
