How Much Does a Website Cost in Kenya? A 2026 Price Guide
A professionally built website for a small Kenyan business costs roughly KES 15,000 to KES 40,000 in 2026, a fuller company site KES 35,000 to KES 120,000, and an online shop from about KES 50,000. Then you pay every year for a domain and hosting. Here is what drives those numbers, and how to read a quote.
The short answer: budget KES 15,000 to KES 40,000 for a simple five-page business website, KES 35,000 to KES 120,000 for a larger company site, KES 50,000 to KES 150,000 for a small online shop, and KES 120,000 or more for a custom web system such as a portal or booking platform. On top of that, set aside roughly KES 3,500 to KES 17,000 a year for a domain and hosting.
The ranges in this guide come from two places: our own fixed prices at Wallflower, and the packages and price guides that Kenyan web agencies publish on their own websites at the time of writing (September 2026). Prices move with the exchange rate, hosting costs and demand, so treat the figures as a guide and confirm them with whoever you hire.

What each type of website includes
Simple business website (KES 15,000 to 40,000)
This is the right site for most salons, clinics, hardware shops, consultants, schools starting out and service businesses. It usually has home, about, services, gallery and contact pages. The essentials are a layout that works well on a phone, a click-to-call number, a WhatsApp button, a Google Map pin and a contact form. The lower end is usually a template adapted to your brand; the upper end adds more design work and better copy.
Company website (KES 35,000 to 120,000)
A larger organisation needs more pages, often a separate page per service or department, a news or blog section the team can update, staff profiles, downloadable documents and analytics to see where visitors come from. The design is usually more custom, and there is more time spent on structure and copy. Corporate sites with several departments, multiple languages or links to internal systems can go past KES 300,000.
E-commerce website (from about KES 50,000)
An online shop is a different kind of project because it has to handle products, stock, payments and orders. Cost rises with the number of products someone has to load, the payment methods (M-Pesa, card, pay on delivery), delivery rules for different areas, customer accounts, discount codes and reports. For M-Pesa checkout on your own site, you need a business Paybill or Till number, and the developer connects it through Safaricom's Daraja API or a payment gateway. Card gateways charge a fee per transaction, so check their current rates before you choose one.
If you want to test selling online before paying for a full store, a free WFW shop gives you a product catalogue with orders sent to your WhatsApp, and you can move to a custom build later.
Custom web app (from about KES 120,000)
Anything with user logins and business logic falls here: a school or staff portal, a booking system, a membership platform, a tool that pulls data from another service. These are priced on the time needed to plan, build and test the features, not by page. Ask for a written list of features and a clear definition of what "done" means before you agree a price.
What makes a website quote go up or down
- Number of unique page designs. Ten pages that share one layout cost far less than ten pages that each need their own design.
- Who writes the content and supplies photos. If you hand over finished text, a logo and good photos, the job is quicker. If the designer has to write copy or organise a photo shoot, expect add-on charges. Ours are KES 5,000 for content writing and KES 10,000 for photography.
- Features. Bookings, payments, member areas, multi-language pages and integrations with accounting or SMS systems each add real work.
- The platform. A WordPress site built on an existing theme is usually cheaper than a fully custom-coded site, though custom code can be faster and easier to secure.
- Product loading. An online shop with 20 products and one with 500 are priced very differently, especially if the designer is expected to upload them.
- What is bundled. Some quotes include hosting, a domain, training and months of support. Others quote the build only. Compare like with like.
- How fast you respond. Slow feedback stretches a two-week job into two months, and some developers charge for the extra time.
Yearly costs of running a website in Kenya
The build is a one-time cost. These are the costs that come back every year:
| Item | Typical cost (Sept 2026) | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| .co.ke domain | About KES 1,000 to 2,000 a year | First-year offers are often cheaper than renewal. One large Kenyan registrar lists KES 999 to register and KES 1,500 to renew. |
| .com domain | About KES 1,000 to 2,500 a year | Same pattern: check the renewal price, not just the first-year price. |
| Hosting | About KES 2,500 to 15,000 a year | Shared hosting is enough for most small business sites. Busy shops and web apps need more. |
| SSL certificate | Usually free | Most Kenyan hosts include a free certificate. You should not be paying extra for the padlock on a small site. |
| Business email | Free to about KES 1,100 per user per month | Basic mailboxes often come with hosting. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 charge per user per month, billed against the dollar. |
| Maintenance | About KES 1,500 to 25,000 a month | Covers updates, backups, security checks and small content changes. Optional for a simple site, important for a shop. |
As a worked example with our prices: a Starter site is KES 15,000 upfront and includes the first month of hosting. After that, hosting and domain together cost KES 500 a month or KES 5,000 a year, with SSL, daily backups and the domain renewal included. Maintenance is an optional KES 1,500 a month. If you are still choosing a name, our guide on how to register a .co.ke domain walks through it.
DIY website builder, freelancer or agency?
DIY website builders
Builders such as Wix, Shopify, WordPress.com and the site builders bundled with Kenyan hosting plans let you make a site yourself. The upfront cost is low, but international builders charge a monthly subscription in US dollars, so the shilling cost changes with the exchange rate, and shop builders add app and transaction fees. The real cost is your time, and moving a site off a hosted builder later is often difficult. A builder makes sense if your budget is very tight and you enjoy doing it yourself.
Freelancer
A good freelancer can deliver a solid site for less than an agency because there is less overhead. Quality varies widely, though, and a one-person operation carries a continuity risk: if they get busy, change careers or become unreachable, you may be left without access to your own site. Look at live sites they have built, call one or two of those clients, and insist on the handover points listed below.
Agency
An agency usually costs more but offers a defined process, several people who know your project, and ongoing support. Agencies vary too. Ask who will actually build your site, what is included after launch, and how quickly they respond to support requests.
Red flags in a website quote
- The domain is registered in the designer's name. Whoever is listed as the registrant controls the domain. We have taken over sites where the domain was registered under a previous developer's personal details, and when the registrar asked for verification the business could not respond and the website went offline. Insist that your business name and your email are on the registration.
- No handover. You should receive the admin login, access to the hosting account or a clear record of where the site is hosted, and a copy of the site files or a backup. If the quote does not mention handover, ask.
- Hidden renewal fees. "Free domain and hosting" often means free for the first year only. Ask for the renewal price in writing, every year after the first.
- Vague scope. A quote that just says "website design, KES 40,000" with no page count, features, rounds of changes or timeline invites disagreement later.
- Guaranteed first page on Google. Nobody controls Google's rankings. A developer can build a site that is fast and technically sound for search, but not promise a position.
- A price far below everyone else with no explanation. Sometimes it means pirated themes or plugins, which do not receive security updates and can put malware on your site.
How to brief a web designer to get an accurate quote
Send every designer the same information, so the quotes are comparable and close to the final bill:
- What your business does and who your customers are.
- What the site must achieve: phone calls, WhatsApp enquiries, bookings, walk-ins or online sales.
- The pages you expect, even as a rough list: home, about, services, gallery, contact.
- Features you need: online payments, booking forms, a blog, a product catalogue and roughly how many products.
- What content is ready: logo, photos, written text, price lists.
- Two or three websites you like, and what you like about each.
- Your domain situation: whether you already own one and whose name it is registered in.
- Who will update the site after launch, and how often.
- Your budget range and deadline. Sharing a range helps the designer suggest what fits, instead of guessing.
You can send exactly this through our quote form. If you already have a website and want to know what to fix before spending on a new one, run it through our free website audit, which grades speed, mobile layout, SEO and security and shows an estimated KES cost for each fix.
Where Wallflower's packages sit
Our prices are fixed and published on our pricing page, and they sit at or below the lower end of the market ranges above:
- Starter, KES 15,000: up to 5 pages, mobile responsive, contact form, Google Maps, WhatsApp button, basic SEO, 1 month free hosting and training. Typically 1 to 2 weeks.
- Business, KES 30,000: up to 10 pages, premium design, gallery, social media integration, Google Analytics, 3 months free hosting and 1 month of support. Typically 2 to 3 weeks.
- E-Commerce, KES 50,000: online store with up to 50 products, cart, payment gateway integration, M-Pesa ready, order management, inventory, customer accounts, 6 months free hosting and 3 months of support. Typically 3 to 4 weeks.
We keep costs down by having AI coding agents do much of the building while our team directs the work, reviews it and checks every page on desktop and mobile before it goes live. Content writing, a logo and photography are optional add-ons, not hidden inside the package price. You can pay 50% upfront and 50% on completion, and you own the site once it is paid for. Larger custom systems are quoted separately, and you can see examples of both simple sites and web apps in our work, or read about our web design service in Nairobi.
Whoever you hire, the questions in this guide apply: get the scope in writing, check the renewal prices, and make sure the domain and the logins end up in your name.
